Major Service for Peugeot 308 1.5 BlueHDi 2024

The 2024 Peugeot 308 with a 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine came to our Russian car service in Belgrade for a major service. We performed a complete set of tasks:

• timing belt replacement;
• water pump replacement;
• coolant replacement;
• engine oil replacement;
• filter replacements;
• inspection and servicing of all related components.

There is a specific detail to note about the 1.5 BlueHDi engine: the camshaft drive chain. Early versions of the engine had a chain that was 7 mm wide. Over time, this chain can stretch, and in the worst-case scenario, it may break, leading to severe engine damage.

When servicing such engines, it is recommended to install a reinforced 8 mm chain, along with the camshaft bed and the camshafts themselves. For the 2023-2024 Peugeot 308 models, the 8 mm chain is already factory-installed.

This means that during a major service, it's important to check not only the timing belt but also the camshaft chain, considering the known characteristics of this particular engine.
